Naaman, the commander of the Syrian King's forces described in the Second Book of Kings was said to be afflicted with leprosy. He was assisted by the Hebrew slave girl shown here who directed him to the Hebrew prophet Elisha. Elisha told him to bathe seven times in the Jordan River which cured the ailment. Leprosy, known as Hansen's disease, is a much more generally disfiguring disease than shown in this drawing, however, it seems to have at least afflicted Naaman to the point of being androgynous.
